It should be mentioned that Open Shell is no longer under active development, so we can't vouch for how long the app will work. Plus, you can switch the Start button (via Github). Open Shell restores the status bar shortcuts on Windows Explorer. It's compatible with multiple monitors and languages. All three styles provide ready access to recent, pinned, and last-used apps. You can pick from three styles: classic single-column, double-column, or Windows 7. Open Shell is also free software that offers a customizable classic Start menu. It's compatible with multiple monitors, lets you reposition the Taskbar (and the Start menu with it), restores flyout menus, brings back the original right-click context menu, and shows your entire app list by default. Your screen might go blank for a couple of minutes during the installation. Local setting: Settings > Personalization > Start > Show recently added apps. This policy applies to: Windows 10 version 1803 and later. (see screenshot below) 3 In the right pane of Start Menu and Taskbar, double click/tap on the Start Layout policy to edit it. Currently I try to erase all items from the start layout. Group policy: Computer configuration\Administrative Template\Start Menu and Taskbar\Remove 'Recently Added' list from Start Menu. 2 In the left pane of the Local Group Policy Editor, click/tap on to expand Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, and Start Menu and Taskbar. Go to the ExplorerPatch Github or download the setup directly and follow the on-screen instructions. Since I had to set up Windows PCs way too often in the last time (and probably will also in the next time) I am working on automating this process as much as I possibly can (even though it still wont be worth it timewise). You can also choose the global Windows 11 mode to improve the Explorer context menus, legacy search utility, and more (via GitHub). ExplorerPatcher is a free project designed to rework the entire Windows 11 Taskbar - the notification area, the icons, the layout, search, and of course, the Start Menu.
